You Have to Believe in Love for Love to be Seen: Love Spells’ “Maybe I Still Love You” Encapsulates the Honesty and Vulnerability of Love

Houston native indie/alternative artist, Sir Taegan Harris aka Love Spells, released “Maybe I Still Love You” last month ahead of his new album, LOVE IS THE LAW. At just 18, Love Spells committed to pursuing a career within the music scene, despite personal hardship. His genuine love for music, and inherent ambition, have allowed the musician to overcome a battle with homelessness. Love Spells then made the jump to spend six months in California focusing on his dream of a career in music. While staying with an internet friend, he explored various studios in the area and honed in on finding his own vision and sound. Shortly after returning to Texas, Love Spells received a call from Kevin Abstract (rapper and producer, founder of Brockhampton) and began working on his 2025 Blush project. Almost a year later, Love Spells is building his discography and collaborating with artists such as Dominic Fike and Deb Never.
“Maybe I Still Love You” is a single released prior to his upcoming album, LOVE IS THE LAW. According to Love Spells, the vision for his album is to encapsulate feelings accompanied with experiences he had in Houston prior to making the transition to LA for this project. He notes the importance of the Numbers Dance Club in Houston and its ability to serve as a sort of third space, not only for Love Spells, but for other members of alternative communities. The nostalgic vibes of the 70’s, 80’s, and New Wave music scene is what Love Spells craves for all listeners to not only hear, but feel within his newest project.
Lyrically, “Maybe I Still Love You” is an authentic and honest track that tackles relationship themes such as believing in love and the struggle to come to terms with feelings that you can’t ignore. “Maybe I Still Love You” is vulnerable and relatable, as it takes the listener on a journey through the process of accepting and embracing one’s emotions of a past love while understanding you can still be surrounded by love if you choose to believe it. This song serves as the closing track to LOVE IS THE LAW and features an intimate and stripped-back tone musically. Between the delicate piano, highlighted guitar riffs, and calming falsetto, this track provides an honest and effective type of closure to the emotions explored within the single, which are likely themes to be recognized in the album as well.
The tone of sincerity is seen within the main verse and chorus of the track, leaving listeners feeling understood in this all too common human experience. Many of us can resonate with the experience of accepting the end of a serious relationship while also mourning the intense feelings of passion and comfort another person can bring.

As the third pre-released single from LOVE IS THE LAW, “Maybe I Still Love You” does an excellent job of foreshadowing themes and emotions to be tackled within the album in its entirety. The other two pre-released tracks, “Crutch” and “Keep It To Yourself,” sit at the second and third track locations on the album, which presumably cover the beginning of the album’s story. However, “Maybe I Still Love You” is the album’s closing track and it is clear that it provides a strong sense of closure to the theme of not only accepting one's emotions, but also appreciating the ability to feel them. Sir Taegan Harris explains that, “you have to believe in love for love to be seen” which perfectly encapsulates the hope that fans feel after listening to “Maybe I Still Love You.” To experience joy we also will inevitably experience pain, so to find love, we must remain open to the experience and believe that we will find it when the time is right.
LOVE IS THE LAW is out now via RCA Records, and Love Spells will be heading on tour starting next week.
