I’ve always believed the weekend starts the moment the clock hits 5 p.m. on a Friday, and last week, Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia felt like the perfect place to ease into it. The Philly duo @, joined by Porcelaine and Devin Shaffer, played a lovely evening set, turning the park into an intimate DIY venue.
I first heard about @ more than two years ago through a friend. After spending far too long fighting Google’s search results for a band named “@,” I finally found the duo of Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak. There’s something quietly magnetic about the way they build songs: delicate folk melodies that gradually bloom into sprawling, deeply emotional soundscapes. Seeing those songs performed in a garden felt fitting, with the pair’s gentle harmonies drifting through the trees as the sun set behind them.
@ are set to release their sophomore album Autosmile this October – their first album for 4AD – before heading out on an extensive North American and European tour with dates alongside This Is Lorelei and YHWH Nailgun, as well as their own headline shows.
