The Summer Set headlined a night packed with pop punk power at Boston’s Big Night Live on Monday. On this Meet Me At The Record Store Tour stop, the band leaned into an infectious blend of upbeat rock and heartfelt lyrics. Singer Brian Logan Dales promised to “make up for a lot of lost debauchery” from the band’s St Patrick’s Day weekend Boston show twelve years prior. This energy carried straight into “All My Friends,” a jaunty “good old fashioned drinking song,” according to Dales. Each member brought a distinct charisma: Jess Bowen drummed with fierce precision from her center-stage platform; bassist Stephen Gomez propped his foot on a speaker to lean closer to the fans; and guitarist John Gomez added flair with spins and jumps. Clever mashups wove classic verses into the performance – “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys into “Boomerang,” and “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls into “About A Girl.” A standout duet with Senses singer Madison Taylor on “Teenagers” brought a new twist to the song’s studio collaboration with Against The Current. The Summer Set’s crisp performance balanced newer tracks with beloved older songs, igniting a celebratory air.

The momentum of the show began with supporting bands. Senses, a self-proclaimed “emo friendly, punk curious” band, delivered a polished and dynamic performance. Madison Taylor’s powerhouse vocals hit soaring notes throughout every song. During “Obsessed,” a fast-paced song about having a crush, she led the audience in a spirited call-and-response. “You & I” showed the band’s emotional depth with slower verses and heavier choruses that centered Nick Sampson’s drumming. A nostalgic cover of Hilary Duff’s “Come Clean” further energized the room.

People R Ugly brought a playful, genre-blurring performance that mixed pop, rap, and funk. Zak Dossi and Bill Biersy’s catchy vocal delivery, including a rocking cover of “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes, was prefaced by a comedic introduction from drummer Tristan Kevitch.

Good Boy Daisy, fronted by twins Hallie and Dylan Myers, steadily built to a bold finish with “Summer Love.” “Where Did You Go?,” a single from the duo’s upcoming EP Blitz, was cheekily dedicated to an audience member’s ex.
