Beauty School Dropout brought their Where Did All the Butterflies Go? tour to Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis last Saturday night, with Nightbreakers opening the show. It was a cold night, but that didn’t stop anyone from lining up early. We’re Midwesterners. We can handle it.
Nightbreakers opened the night and got things going right away. People around me were already singing along, which is always a good sign. The members of the band were clearly having a great time. They were jamming like they were playing in front of a group of friends, not just a room full of strangers.
One thing I couldn’t help but notice throughout the night was the commitment to sunglasses. Multiple members from both Nightbreakers and Beauty School Dropout wore them on stage. I’ll be honest, they somehow pulled it off and had me wishing I looked that cool.
When Beauty School Dropout came out, the energy in the room immediately shifted up a notch. The crowd was loud from the first song and didn’t let up. “FEVER,” “SEX APPEAL,” and “ON YOUR LIPS” easily got some of the biggest reactions of the night. The second those songs started, people were screaming every word.

One of the biggest moments of the night came when Colie Hutzler took time to acknowledge what’s been happening in Minneapolis regarding ICE. He didn’t dance around it. He said, very clearly, “Fuck ICE,” and the crowd absolutely lost it. It was loud. You could feel how much that meant to people in the room. I always respect when artists aren’t afraid to say what they believe, especially when it directly impacts the city they’re playing in.
Later in the set, Hutzler thanked everyone for standing out in the cold and promised that Beauty School Dropout wouldn’t wait another two years to come back to Minneapolis. The crowd cheered even louder at that. Hutzler, we’re holding you to it.
If you’ve been debating buying a ticket, use this as your sign. The Where Did All the Butterflies Go? tour still has several dates left, and after seeing it in Minneapolis, I can confidently say it’s worth it. Go to the show.
