Rochester Lilac Festival 2025

If you live anywhere near Rochester, chances are you’ve been to the Lilac Festival at least once – and if you haven’t, you’re missing out on one of the most genuinely feel-good ways to kick off spring. I went again this year, and honestly? It’s still got that same charm it always has.
First off, yes, the lilacs. Highland Park does not mess around. The smell hits you before you even see them. A whole park is covered in shrubs of Lilacs, and somehow it doesn’t get old, even if you’ve seen it a dozen times. It’s the kind of thing that feels like a reward for surviving another Upstate winter.
But the festival isn’t just flowers. There’s live music literally every day, from local bands to the occasional bigger name, and the crowd always has this laid-back, happy energy. I had the pleasure of attending three of these concerts throughout the week; keep reading to see what I thought!Â

Sir Woman
On the first day, Sir Woman came out with so much soul. Their blend of funk, R&B, and indie pop felt super fresh but also kind of nostalgic – like something your parents would’ve danced to, but cooler. The lead vocals were insanely smooth, and the whole band had this easy, joyful chemistry that pulled everyone in. They brought energy, good vibes, and just enough groove to make you forget it was only the first night of the festival.
The Aces
Skipping to the eighth day, The Aces went onto the stage with a sound that lands somewhere between Chappell Roan’s bold, glittery pop and The 1975’s dreamy, guitar-driven vibes. They’re a queer woman band, and that energy shines through in the best way – confident, unapologetic, and super connected with the crowd. Their set was polished but still felt real and playful, like they were having as much fun as we were. Big energy and tons of charisma. Easily one of the most fun shows of the whole festival.
Beach Weather
Beach Weather closed things out with a cool, dreamy energy that felt just right for the last day. Their laid-back indie pop was the perfect soundtrack for a warm, breezy afternoon – kind of like if summer was a sound. The vocals were solid, and their set flowed really well, almost like a mixtape. Nothing too over-the-top, but really dialed in and satisfying. They left people smiling, and it was a sweet way to end the festival.
The Lilac Festival was like a big block party where everyone’s just in a better mood because the sun is finally out. Is it a little cheesy? Of course. But it’s also just really lovely. The kind of thing that makes you remember why Rochester has a lot more heart than people give it credit for.
