Black Veil Brides brought their North American Tour to The Fillmore in Minneapolis to kick off the release of their eight studio album Vindicate. The night started early with As December Falls taking the stage at 5:30 p.m., but the crowd was more than ready for the show to begin.

Opening for Black Veil Brides (BVB) were As December Falls, TX2, and From Ashes To New. Each band brought a lot of energy to the stage and breezed through their setlists. By breezing through their songs, it brought the energy up from the crowd. By the time From Ashes To New left the stage, the fans were more than ready for BVB to come out.

The stage lights dimmed and fans were immediately chanting “Black Veil Brides!” over and over until the band came out. As the band emerged on the stage, the lights came on and revealed the stage set up for the night. It was a gothic church-inspired setup with tall candles lined across the stage and crosses imprinted on the mic stands, which matched the band’s aesthetic perfectly.

The night was kicked off with “Knives and Pens,” which is one of my personal favorites, so hearing it live was a highlight of the night. Whether you’ve been a fan for years or recently discovered them, “Knives and Pens” is a staple that everyone knows. The audience in Minneapolis was definitely familiar with it as the crowd sang every word.

I’ve seen Black Veil Brides a few times and one of my favorite parts of their shows is the way Andy Biersack interacts with the crowd. He has a witty, dry sense of humor that can make anyone laugh. The funniest moment of the night came early on. A fan had a sign claiming it was their birthday and Andy asked “Is it really your birthday?” The fan admitted it wasn’t. Andy announced it was the bassist Lonny Eaglton’s birthday and got 2 thousand people to sing “Happy Birthday” to Lonny. Spoiler alert: it was not Lonny’s birthday. “Yeah, how does it feel to be lied to?” Andy joked with the crowd as they laughed along with the band.

Another favorite moment from the night was when Andy joked about hearing the rumors he is secretly Vessel from Sleep Token. “Do you know how pissed off that fandom is at me?” Andy said as the crowd was dying with laughter. “Apparently I can’t be Vessel because I’m just the guy who can only sing the whoas.” Again, his humor can make anyone laugh. “That band President, I’m just saying nobody has ever seen us in a room together.” In conclusion, Andy is not the lead singer of Sleep Token, but he might be the lead singer of President.

The band’s performance throughout the night was phenomenal. They gave the crowd a mix of older classics and newer releases, and really showcased how they have evolved as a band musically. Fans were singing every word to the classics like “Rebel Love Song,” “Sweet Blasphemy,” and “The Legacy.” They played their newer tracks including “Certainity,” “Vindicate” and “Revenger.” The chemistry between the band has always stood out to me. They play off of each other’s energy well and they know how to give the audience a show. There are only a few dates left of the tour, but tickets are on sale for the second leg of the tour hitting at the end of the summer.
