“Are you Philly good?” asked Lyn Lapid during her packed show at Brooklyn Bowl, Philadelphia, earning a mix of cheers and laughs. “I just came up with that,” admitted the singer playfully with a laugh. Corny? Maybe. But it was the kind of goofy, self-aware charm that defined the night.

By the time Lapid took the stage, the audience was already buzzing thanks to Fig’s opening set. The New York City-based singer-songwriter danced across the stage with infectious enthusiasm and kept the audience engaged with a round of quirky trivia. Questions like “What bird can’t move its eyeballs?” and “What country doesn’t have any rivers?” earned lucky fans mini Lego sets and packets of ramen. Fig also treated the crowd to an unreleased song, which was met with eager cheers.

Between sets, the energy was kept high, with pop anthems from Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and others echoing through the venue. From the photo pit, I saw rows of teenagers dance and sing along, many of them dressed in red to match the bright red scarf on Lapid’s mic stand – a detail that would later connect with her band’s coordinated outfits.

When the lights dimmed, the crowd let out a big roar as Lapid’s bandmates – Kayla Ramilliano on bass, Jacqueline Kim on guitar, and Tyler Nam on drums – took the stage. Their chemistry with Lapid was instant and electric, like four friends jamming out on stage together.

About midway through the set, Lapid sang a few stripped-down songs with only her and Kim on stage. It was a moment of stillness in an otherwise energetic set, and the crowd responded by turning on their phone flashlights and waving them about.

Her setlist featured tracks from BUZZKILL, her debut album released in April, alongside fan-favorite tracks from her earlier releases such as “poster boy,” “the alternative,” and “Room For You,” her collaboration with fellow Filipino artist grentperez. During “poster boy,” Lapid picked out a fan from the audience, crowning him the night’s poster boy and dedicating the song to him – a moment that felt personal.

Another highlight of the show? The sound of occasional bowling happening across the room. The distractions from falling pins were handled good-naturedly by Lapid, who would root for people to get a strike, letting out a comical groan when they didn’t.

Throughout the show, she acknowledged fans’ homemade signs and made a point to shout out fellow Filipinos in the crowd. “I hear my people!” she exclaimed, before cracking another pun: “Philly… Filipino… Philly-pino!” It was these small, spontaneous moments that brought the room closer, making the night one to remember.

Lapid’s tour continues through June. You can find all her tour dates here, and the rest of the photos from her show in Philadelphia below!
