Rising rock duo Girl Tones – made up of siblings Kenzie and Laila – return with a new single, “Cherry Picker,” and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Blistering and unapologetically grungy, the track feels tailor-made for late summer, when a bit of heat still lingers but a chill has started to creep into the air.
At its core, “Cherry Picker” grapples with the allure of forbidden fruit and the struggle to see reality unclouded.
Vocalist Kenzie explains, “‘Cherry Picker’ is the distortion of reality and the uncomfortability of death. I love this song because it’s a reminder to me that anyone, including myself, is susceptible to distortion.” That sentiment cuts through in sharp lines like, “I bit the hand that feeds me / It tastes like hypocrite / A wolf hides in sheep’s clothing / And feels like bitter death.”
To say 2025 has been a big year for Girl Tones would be an understatement. From touring with acts like Cage the Elephant to making their festival debut at Lollapalooza, the siblings are cementing themselves as an act to watch. Their steady run of singles has only reinforced that reputation, each release landing with the same intensity as the last.
Their year is far from over, with future dates supporting Cage the Elephant already lined up, in addition to festivals like Shaky Knees and Austin City Limits. Check out their full list of shows below and watch the official visualizer for “Cherry Picker!”
