I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that Lana Del Rey had finally released “Henry, Come On.” A track that was first teased over a year ago is now finally and truly out in the world, and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed.
“Henry, Come On” is part of Del Rey’s upcoming album, The Right Person Will Stay. Fans may know that Del Rey had been planning a country album titled Lasso, but last year, she revealed that the album will be called The Right Person Will Stay, and would instead have more of an Americana feel to it.
“All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like Honeymoon which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure,” shared Del Rey in an interview with Vogue last August, “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production – which again, so many of my songs already are.”
While we certainly got a glimpse of what country Del Rey can sound like on “Tough,” her collab with Quavo released last July, I must say that I welcome a more familiar sound from her. Many pop artists are embracing country influences right now, and Del Rey’s soft vocals and stripped-back instrumentation encapsulate everything that I love about the singer.
Coming in at just over five minutes, “Henry, Come On” is produced by Luke Laird, Zach Dawes, and Drew Erickson, which is also a shift from Del Rey’s frequent collaborations with Jack Antonoff.
The Right Person Will Stay is supposed to be released on May 21, via Interscope and Polydor. Del Rey will be performing in a couple of weeks at Stagecoach on April 25. Check out some of her other dates here. Listen to “Henry, Come On” below.
