It’s impossible to walk out of a Caroline Kingsbury show and not become an instant admirer. This was evident on Thursday night in San Francisco, with attendees of the “Shock Treatment Tour“ excitedly chatting about how much they loved the show on the streets outside the venue.
The Los Angeles based singer took the Brick & Mortar stage in a sequined neon jumpsuit, pink gogo boots, and of course, colorful makeup and big hair – a look reminiscent of the iconic 80’s movie aesthetics. She wasn’t the only one dressed to the nines in Cyndi Lauper-esque attire. Fans wearing sparkly bright outfits spent the night dancing and singing along, mesmerized by the performance at all turns. Kingsbury has a way of captivating an audience like few other artists can do. She even invited three fans to dance with her on stage to her song “Alabama” and held hands with several fans throughout the night. She creates and nurtures a connection with each individual, making her shows an inclusive and fun place for everyone who attends.
Kingsbury uses her music as a way to honor her late brother Kyle. In a heartwarming moment, she explained that the song “Pain and Pleasure” is about the dichotomy of grief – the sadness in loss and the joy that you had the pleasure to know and to love someone so special. She expressed that this song, and others like “Heaven’s Just a Flight,” is a way to memorialize her brother’s memory.

The show consisted of Kingsbury on guitar and vocals and Sierra Leuschen on drums. In
my experience, I’ve found that it can sometimes be difficult to have a smashing show without a full band, but once again, Kingsbury proved that she doesn’t follow the norm. The same goes for Primer, the electric pop singer who opened the show with a mesmerizing set.
Caroline Kingsbury has been a rising name in the pop scene for the last several years. She
began her career a decade ago with a handful of independently released singles, followed by the release of her debut album “Heaven’s Just a Flight” in 2021. The lead single “Kissing
Someone Else” has amassed millions of streams across platforms and acted as the gateway for many of her now devoted fans to discover her music. She released two subsequent EP’s I Really Don’t Care! and Shock Treatment, which both garnered more public attention and praise. Her music isn’t the only thing that fans connect to: she is also known for being an
incredible performer. Kingsbury has toured with Pom Pom Squad, co-headlined a tour with fellow pop singer MARIS, and even graced the stage at Lollapalooza last year. Now,
Kingsbury is wrapping up her first solo headline tour across the United States, with the San
Francisco show marking her second to last stop on this run. Don’t be dismayed if you were
unable to attend the “Shock Treatment Tour“: Kingsbury is heading back on the road this fall
supporting Cannons in thirteen cities across the U.S. and Canada this October.
With powerhouse vocals, vibrant performances, and an incredibly impressive discography, it’s shocking that Caroline Kingsbury isn’t already a household name. I think it’s safe to say that we’re looking at one of the next big names in pop music, and I for one will be eagerly awaiting what’s next for Caroline Kingsbury.
